About Me

Hello!

My name is Tasha Starr Brewer and I started my sourdough journey a couple years ago.  I made my first starter from scratch and it epically failed, so I waited a year and then tried again.  This time it worked well and it took off.

My husband Chase and I have three sons.  At the time of making the starter, I was spending most of my time (99%) at home with my boys or on the road for doctor's appointments for our youngest son CJ (Chase James) who had congenital heart disease.  It was easy to throw in sourdough making since I was in the Outer Banks of North Carolina so everything rose easily and I could watch the starter and dough in between feeding kids, giving medication and the short spurts of sleep that I would get here and there.

On May 7th, I put my starter in the fridge for what ended up being 40 days while my son CJ was in the hospital, as they were trying to fix his heart.  It was unsuccessful and unfortunately, he passed away on June 19th at 9 months old.

CJ was such a little delight in his short life.  I remember the first time he lifted his head on his own and he just giggled.  He was happy the entire time through a terrible situation.  After he passed, I pulled out my starter and began baking pretty much everyday.  It was a therapy of a sort for me personally.

My family could not eat all that bread I was making!  I had so many people to say thank you to, so I just started giving it out. I had a few friends say that I should sell it.

Meanwhile, my husband was relocated to Estes Park, CO for his job.  So I had to learn high elevation baking!  Our first months here, I focused on that and then opened up my business.  It has been a true joy to honor my son through continuing to bake and to give people fresh bread that is made with simple ingredients!  I have also been able to spend some time working on my artworks and jewelry as well (paintingthestarrs.com) all while homeschooling my oldest (almost 7) and 3 year old.
